My mamamare would make Romanian food for us and of course her cooking was amazing and nothing could compare. However, she never made papanasi, which are Romanian fried donuts with sour cream and fruit preserves. Boy did we miss out! I made it a point to it every day while in Romania, along with some țuică or pálinka.

I had taken a long hiatus from social media for about six months and a lot has happened since my last post. So we're going to play catch-up! ⁠

At the end of July, I took a 10 day trip to Romania. My mother was born in Bucharest but her family escaped when she was only 2 and she never went back. For years we had toyed with the idea of going together, but that unfortunately didn't happen due to her passing in 2022. I had been putting it off and finally bought a ticket, rented a car, and visited about five cities. It was my first time in Eastern Europe and while I unfortunately never picked up Romanian as a kid, I had a fantastic time!

I'm late to the game, but I was fortunate enough to enjoy the cherry blossom peak bloom a couple weeks ago in #WashingtonDC around the Tidal Basin and Memorials. Already looking forward to next year's blooms! 🌸
